Current Project
Our current ongoing project is one for rooftop solar and we have split the project into 3 phases
Phase 1
The use of community owned buildings for rooftop solar. Two potential buildings that could be candidates in the village of Tockwith are the Village Hall and the Sportsfield Trust buildings.
If agreed, these buildings would have rooftop panels installed and paid for by Tockwith Community Energy.
Tockwith Community Energy would then charge for the generated electricity at a reduced rate while the panels are in operation, which gives these community buildings lower energy bills.
The profit that Tockwith Community Energy make from selling this electricity will be put into future phases of the project and any surplus income will be donated to an independent community fund set up to award grants for funding local environmental and fuel poverty projects.
We have been working in partnership with Energy consultants Energy Oasis to complete the feasibility study for phase one of the project. We are now in the development phase which will be focusing on the predicted costs for the company and project. It will also focus on additional engagement with the local community about our plans.
The Community Survey
A community survey was carried out in August 2024.
Based on the survey results, there is a strong interest in local energy generation within the community. Eighty-nine percent of respondents were interested in local energy generation, with a 10% return on the survey, which was considered as good as expected.
Following the survey a consultant-led study was carried out which confirmed the feasibility of the proposed scheme. Receipt of two more small grants is facilitating the development phase of the project, including, in due course, the founding of the Community Benefit Society.
Phase 2
To expand the rooftop solar to local business parks and landowners. The businesses would have rooftop solar installed and paid for by Tockwith Community Energy and as a result they would receive a 10-30% reduction on their electricity costs in comparison to their current supplier while the panels are in operation.

Phase 3
To work in partnership with future land developers to fit solar panels on new properties and also look at ground mounted solar panels for working in partnership with local landowners.
